World Languages Professor and Department Chair Receives Teaching Excellence Award
Professor Kohn-Buday Receives 2013 "Excellence in Teaching" Award
MILWAUKEE (October 1, 2013) - Mount Mary University awarded Mary Ellen Kohn-Buday, Ph.D., its 2013 "Excellence in Teaching" award. Kohn-Buday is an associate professor of Foreign Languages/Spanish and chairperson of the World Languages department at the university.
To earn the award, faculty must demonstrate innovative teaching techniques, current knowledge of developments, trends and research in her academic field, as well as dedication, enthusiasm and support of students' personal, moral and intellectual growth.
This year's award winner was selected by a committee comprised of faculty, students, the past year's award recipients and Mount Mary's Dean for Academic Affairs. Nominating students identified Kohn-Buday as a teacher who "loves what she is teaching and who is eager to get into the classroom and see her students do well."
Kohn-Buday has been teaching at Mount Mary for over 20 years. She received her B. A. and M.A. in Spanish from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and her Ph.D. in Spanish from University of Illinois. She resides in Richfield, WI.
According to Mount Mary University President Eileen Schwalbach, the "Excellence in Teaching" award recognizes faculty members who consistently challenge themselves and their students. "We're delighted to acknowledge a faculty member who informs and inspires students to reach their full potential with this special honor," Schwalbach said. "Mary Ellen embodies the kind of exceptional teaching Mount Mary has been providing for 100 years," she added.
