Great Lakes Internship Grant

Mount Mary University Receives Career Ready Internship Initiative Grant

MILWAUKEE (November 25, 2013) - Mount Mary University has received a $150,000 grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation (Great Lakes) to support students who are unable to accept unpaid internship positions due to financial need. Utilizing Initiative funds, Mount Mary will partner with businesses to create new paid internships and convert existing unpaid internships into paid internships. The internships will provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable, real-world experience in their fields of study and to ultimately become more competitive in the job market.

"We're pleased that the generous Career Ready Internship Grant will give so many students opportunities otherwise not available to them," stated Wendy Weaver, Acting Dean for Academic Affairs.

Mount Mary University is one of 19 Wisconsin colleges and universities to receive a Career Ready Internship Initiative grant for the 2013-14 academic year. Since 2006, Great Lakes has committed nearly $90 million in funding to programs that support underserved students who start and complete a postsecondary degree or certificate.
