University Receives Grant to Continue College Success Program

Continued Funding from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation Sustains P3 Project that Boosts Retention and College Completion

MILWAUKEE (October 7, 2014) - Mount Mary University has received a $150,730 College Success Continuation grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation (Great Lakes) to support its Peers, Professionalism and Persistence (P3) program. The P3 program provides services focused on mitigating non-academic challenges typically faced by traditionally underserved students so they're able to remain in college and earn their undergraduate degree. Through P3 services provided in the previous academic year, 91 percent of participants in the project persisted from last year to this year.

The College Success Continuation grant will allow Mount Mary to help 80 students overcome obstacles to college completion during the 2014-2015 school year.

"We're proud of P3's positive impact on student success," said Nicole Gahagan, dean for student affairs. "This additional funding from Great Lakes enables us to continue programs and services that keep underserved students enrolled and on the path to achieving the many benefits of higher education including improved earning potential, higher job satisfaction, and increased overall quality of life."

Mount Mary University is one of 16 organizations in Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota to receive a College Success Continuation grant for the 2014-15 academic year. A total of 3,835 undergraduate students from low-income backgrounds, students of color, and students who are first in their family to attend college will benefit from support services.
