Peace and Conflict Studies Receives Additional Funding

Marian R. Scheibe Foundation supports Peacebuilding Certificate, Peace Activities

MILWAUKEE (January 28, 2015) - Mount Mary University has received a two-year grant from the Marian R. Scheibe Foundation to support its Peacebuilding Certificate Program activities and participation in the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies (WIPCS), a consortium of private and public colleges and universities dedicated to enriching academic and public discourse on issues of peace and conflict.

According to Lynne M. Woehrle, Ph.D., sociology professor and director of the Peacebuilding Certificate program, the grant will support peacebuilding experiences for Mount Mary students and faculty both on and off campus. "Generous support from the Marian R. Scheibe Foundation will allow us to continue to bring relevant speakers to campus, attend meetings and conferences throughout the state and at University of Notre Dame, and raise awareness of peacebuilding across campus through special student engagement activities," Dr. Woehrle stated.

The grant also supports the event the university organizes in recognition of the International Day of Peace celebration. The 2015 International Day of Peace event will take place in September.

The Peacebuilding Certificate Program is a pre-baccalaureate certificate requiring 19 credits and 30 hours of volunteer work.
