Record-breaking enrollment for Summer Leadership Academy
Academy offers leadership, college and career sessions for high school girls
Approximately 90 high school girls from around the Midwest and one international student will participate in Mount Mary’s expanded Summer Leadership Academy, held June 25-29, 2023. This represents the largest group participating in the event in its five-year history.
This summer program is a residence-based experience that includes five days and four nights on campus. Students at the Academy have the option of enrolling in one of three tracks based upon their academic interests: arts and design; STEM; and business/humanities, with a focus on user experience design.
ACADEMY GOES GLOBAL
For the first time, students will participate in a live virtual exchange with students a world away, at the Royal University for Women in the Kingdom of Bahrain. They will discuss the similarities and differences, successes and challenges that define what it means for young women who are emerging leaders in Bahrain and in the United States.
The Royal University for Women in Bahrain is the first private, purpose-built, international university in the country that is dedicated solely to educating women.
Other leadership and college preparedness topics for the program include:
- Confidence and the Importance of Sisterhood
- Building SMART Financial Habits
- Finding the Right Fit in a College
- Networking with Young Professionals
In addition to the 71 program attendees, 16 peer mentors will be on campus to assist with the program. Peer mentors are young women who have previously attended a Summer Leadership Academy and return to the program to lead small group discussions and assist first-year participants.
