Mount Mary Ranked for Accessibility, Professional Readiness According to Carnegie Classification
Mount Mary has been included among a list of colleges and universities striving to promote increased access to higher education and better earning potential post-graduation. This list was just released by the Carnegie Foundation and the American Council on Education as part of a redesigned classification system intended to support student success while addressing the changing landscape of higher education.
The new Student Access and Earnings Classification considers information such as types of degrees awarded, primary majors and the overall size of the institution, as well as enrollment of underrepresented and Pell-eligible students, and how their professional earnings compare with their peers. According to Carnegie, institutions with numbers indicated as “higher access” and “higher earnings” are identified as “Opportunity Colleges and Universities.” The new classification system seeks to highlight the colleges and universities which create the conditions for consistently successful student outcomes.
MMU’s classification, Professions-focused Undergraduate/Graduate-Master's Small, includes 121 institutions. This represents 3% of U.S. colleges and universities in the Institutional Classification and reflects MMU’s focus on college accessibility and career readiness with an emphasis on science, technology and healthcare education.
