Dietetic Internship/Master of Science in Advanced Dietetics
The Dietetic Internship/Master of Science in Advanced Dietetics Program at Mount Mary University is no longer accepting applications. The program will remain accredited until May 31, 2025 at which time Accreditation Council for Education (ACEND®) accreditation will end and the program will close.

The IMSND Program combines the required 1,050 hours of supervised experiential learning and ACEND competencies with the master’s level coursework to prepare you to be eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians upon completion of the program and become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). Effective January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). In order to be approved for registration examination eligibility with a bachelor’s degree, an individual must meet all eligibility requirements and be submitted into CDR's Registration Eligibility Processing System (REPS) before 12 midnight Central Time, December 31, 2023. CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in programs(s) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

Program Mission
Mount Mary University’s Dietetics Internship/Masters of Science in Advanced Dietetics Program prepares competent, creative, analytical entry-level dietitians with the agility to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and excel as socially-minded, evidence-based practitioners in a variety of settings.
Program Features
- 18 month program that combines supervised practice with earning a Masters of Science in Advanced Dietetics
- Individualized placements according to your interests, goals, and where you live
- Classes provide opportunity to collaborate, share experiences, reflect on insights, and network with guest speakers and RDs.
- Online synchronous and asynchronous graduate courses expand knowledge and allow application and information during placements.
- Financial aid and federal student loan deferment is available for eligible graduate students.
- Our program concentration in disease prevention and health promotion challenges interns to promote health in every practice setting.
Program Schedule
- Full-time graduate program beginning in June
- Orientation that incorporates supervised practice learning simulations
- Supervised practice in medical nutrition therapy, food service management, and community nutrition with opportunities for shadow experiences in areas of interest
- Courses on focus topic areas in advanced dietetics
- Research courses provide step-by-step and collaborative guidance on a wide array of possible projects

Concentration Highlights
Disease prevention and health promotion activities are incorporated into each rotation and included in orientation and class activities. The types of services vary each year. Examples include:
- Creating recipes with assistance from local chefs for our Healthy Shelves U organization and media for our Healthy Shelves U blog
- Planning and executing a Farm-to-Table meal for residents at Trinity Woods
- Screening food pantry clients for diabetes and hypertension and providing nutrition education and referral information
- Volunteering at local food pantries for health fairs and other events
