Untold Stories
Free workshops for survivors of gender-based violence and human trafficking.
MILWAUKEE (September 2, 2014) - Mount Mary University will host "Untold Stories," a free writing workshop for pre-selected survivors of sexual or domestic violence or human trafficking, on Saturday, October 18 from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in Stiemke Hall on the university's campus. Applications to attend the workshop are due on September 12.
The writing workshop provides a creative, safe environment for survivors to develop their own poetry, short fiction, or prose. Facilitated by award-winning writers, R. Clifton Spargo and Anne Ream, the two-day experience fosters healing and social change through creative expression. Workshop participants will have unique opportunities to share and showcase their work later in the year.
Mount Mary University is currently the longest-standing host for "Untold Stories." Since its founding in 2012, the writing workshop is now offered in two countries and more than seven cities nationwide.
The Mount Mary workshop is made possible in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council, with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this project do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Wisconsin Humanities Council supports and creates programs that use history, culture, and discussion to strengthen community life for everyone in Wisconsin.
