What is UX Design? What do UX designers do?
The user experience refers to how a person interacts with and experiences a product, system or service. This includes a person's perceptions of utility, ease of use, efficiency and enjoyability. It is the role of the UX designer to research and implement features to ensure the user has the best experience possible. This includes everything from visual elements to layout functions.
What is the difference between UX and UI?
User interface (UI) directly affects the user experience and refers to the layout, screens, buttons, toggles, icons and other visual elements that you interact with when using technology. Our BS in UX Design addresses the user experience as a whole, teaching students to analyze the interactions between humans and technology and to utilize skills to make that interaction more intuitive and enjoyable.
How will Mount Mary prepare me for a career in UX Design?
The best UX design schools ensure their students get hands-on training and exposure to the most up-to-date software used in the industry — and that’s exactly what Mount Mary does. Students in our UX Design degree program will have access to the tools they need to succeed, including professors who have industry experience, Mac labs and relevant software, holistic projects designed to enhance your skills, and access to internships and networking opportunities with industry leaders.
Our user experience courses allow you to dive into the subject matter and gain valuable knowledge by doing, not just by listening to lectures. As part of the program, you’ll learn to:
- Apply design thinking and UX principles to evaluate or create products and services.
- Demonstrate cultural competence, inclusiveness and ethical responsibility during the design process.
- Research and analyze existing and potential user needs.
- Evaluate competing design solutions in the context of user experience.
- Conduct usability testing, research and analysis.
- Demonstrate proficiency with professional design and software tools.
- Successfully practice oral, written, interpersonal and visual communication.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal teams and external users.
